Erwin Rommel reported 250,000 casualties by the end of June. By about the same time the allies landed 850,000 men and 150,000 vehicles on Normandy. Then on July 9th the British finally captured Caen. The Americans left from Normandy on July 25th. The Allies eventually captured Paris, France on August 8th, 1944. Then they continued there invasion towards the Lower Countries. The Allies received a surprise attack from the Germans in Belgium, called the Battle of Bulge. Then finally on May 22, 1945 the Germans unconditionally surrendered to the allies ending World War II in Europe.
